Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna

Scuola Superiore di Studi Universitari e di Perfezionamento Sant’Anna is a public research-oriented university located in Pisa, Italy, working in the field of applied sciences. Concerning the quality of the research, SSSA is ranked 1st among Italian small-sized universities.

SSSA is organized in six institutes, among which is the Institute of Communication, Information and Perception Technologies (TeCIP), that is the one involved in SPACEBEAM.

Within the TeCIP institute, the Digital and Microwave Photonics Group is studying photonics in application to microwave systems. The group is renowned expert in microwave photonics systems, and it has pioneered the concept of photonics-based radar. It is also involved in the development of integrated optical beamforming networks, in particular for 5G systems.
